A modified variant of the glycine receptor (GlyR) that incorporates the pharmacological properties of PSAM for chemogenetic regulation. It is composed of GlyR subunits with PSAM4-specific mutations introduced, enabling specific binding to PSAM ligands and generating ion channel activity. PSAM4-GlyR exhibits chloride-selective conductance and hyperpolarizes the cell membrane upon activation by the agonist varenicline, thereby suppressing neuronal activity. Reference: PMID 30872534.
